Washington wanted to give it another try with linebacker Junior Galette. And Washington will now get that chance.

Per a league source, Galette signed a one-year deal to stay with the team. It’s worth up to $4 million.

Galette was cut last year by New Orleans after back-to-back double-digit sack seasons. But a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in August derailed Galette’s 2015 season. A right of first refusal in his contract with Washington limited his options in free agency.

Galette also was suspended two weeks during the 2015 season for violating the Personal Conduct Policy. He served the suspension while on IR, making him free and clear for 2016.

Washington would have preferred a multi-year contract. The one-year deal gives Galette a chance to re-establish himself and hit the market again -- especially since this contract does not include a right of first refusal for 2017.
