KEARSE PLEADS GUILTY TO RECKLESS DRIVING

Tennessee Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse’s driving under the influence charge was reduced to reckless driving, and the former Pro Bowl pass rusher received six months probation after pleading guilty Thursday, according to the Tennessean. Kearse, who could face punishment from the NFL under its substance abuse policy, also must pay a $350 fine, complete an NFL alcohol education program and will have his license restricted for the next year. The former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year apologized after appearing in court. Per the Tennessean, Kearse said: “I’m sorry for any negative press it got the Titans and I’m sorry for the fans and my family. I just hate I had to take my people through this. I know I have to be more careful in the future and not think that something can’t happen.” Added Kearse’s lawyer, Roger May: “I think the agreement is fair for both sides. I think he was treated like other people in that they would have had similar circumstances.” Kearse was arrested June 22 by the Vanderbilt Police Department and charged with DUI and a violation of the state of Tennessee’s implied consent law. Kearse was given that additional charge for refusing to take a Breathalyzer test.
