The Raiders re-signed offensive lineman Khalif Barnes after he became a free agent in the offseason, but they’ve decided not to wait quite as long this time around.
Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com reports that Barnes has signed a one-year extension to remain with the Raiders for the 2015 season. A Raiders spokesman confirmed that the two sides reached agreement on the extension, but nothing is known about the financial terms at this point.
Barnes’s versatility has come in handy for the Raiders this season. He started four games at right tackle earlier this year before Menelik Watson took over at the position and he’ll be in the lineup at left guard for the second straight week while the Raiders wait for Gabe Jackson to get healthy.
Barnes entered the league as a second-round pick by Jacksonville in the 2005 draft and joined the Raiders in 2009, where he has alternated between the starting lineup and the bench in a role he’s likely to retain next season.
