Cornerback Lardarius Webb fulfilled some individual goals last year by returning from a torn ACL to reclaim his spot in the Ravens secondary, but he and his teammates fell short of their collective goals.
The Ravens failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time since John Harbaugh became the team’s head coach and Webb said that he has no goals for this season beyond helping the team return to the playoffs. He knows that the team will have a tough camp, but thinks it will just be part of the team’s return to previous heights.
“Oh yeah, my team is going to bounce back,” Webb said, via the Baltimore Sun. “Last year wasn’t that bad. A lot of people want to say it was bad just because we didn’t make the playoffs. We don’t usually not make the playoffs. A lot of people want to say last year was a horrible year, but it wasn’t a horrible year. There were a few games that left us out of the playoffs. We just have to learn from it. We have some young guys, and we just have to keep growing up with all those guys. I like where we’re at, and we just have to keep on going.”
One place where the defense needs to improve over last second is in their performance late in games. The defense ranked near the bottom of the league in the fourth quarter, allowing opponents to win games while the Ravens offense misfired all year long. Fixing those late game issues will be important for a Ravens defense that has seen a lot of turnover over the last couple of seasons without seeing the offense rise up to pick up the slack.
