Lions will host Ted Ginn

The value of receiver/return specialist Ted Ginn was demonstrated in the NFC title game, by his absence.

A knee injury kept Ginn out of action for the 49ers, and his replacement committed two key errors, including a fumbled punt return in overtime that put the Giants in field-goal range.

Ginn could now miss more than just one game for the 49ers. He’s a free agent, and Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports that Ginn will visit the Lions.

Though Ginn would add a body to the depth chart on offense, he almost certainly would supplant Stefan Logan as the team’s kick and punt returner. Hopefully, Logan won’t steal Ginn’s stuff while he’s in the building, Tatum Bell-style. (Then again, for our purposes, hopefully he will.)

Ginn was the ninth overall pick of the 2007 draft. Miami traded him to San Francisco in 2010. A pay reduction last year wiped out the final year of his rookie deal, putting him on the market now.
