The Lions came into the offseason expected to make changes to their offensive line and they got the ball rolling by signing former Falcons tackle Lamar Holmes this month.
Another of the changes looks like it will come with the departure of a player the Lions traded for on draft day last year. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that interior offensive lineman Manny Ramirez and the team will be parting ways for the second time in Ramirez’s NFL career.
Ramirez came in a deal that saw the Lions drop five spots in the first round and saw time at both guard and center while playing in every game of the regular season. Ramirez started the first five games of the year and seven games overall while playing on just over 45 percent of the team’s offensive snaps.
With Travis Swanson at center and Laken Tomlinson and Larry Warford at guard, the Lions will return their primary starters on the interior in 2016. They could look for an upgrade, although tackle looks like the more pressing need for a team that needs to get better up front on offense.
