Michael Irvin says it’s stupid for Michael Vick not to slide

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick says he’s going to make the most of his running abilities without worrying about injuries, and no one is going to talk him out of playing the way he wants to play.

But Michael Irvin would like to try.

Irvin, the Hall of Fame former Cowboys receiver, told Sporting News that he saw Vick take an unnecessary hit in the preseason game against the Panthers, and it was frustrating for Irvin to see Vick failing to take care of his body.

“It’s stupid,” Irvin said. “You cannot be this stupid. You cannot be this dumb. It’s impossible. Your [butt] has been hurt every year. Stop putting your body on the line like that.”

Irvin said that other than John Elway’s helicopter, he doesn’t ever want to see a quarterback putting his body on the line.

“The only time you do it—when John Elway did it in the Super Bowl. That’s it,” Irvin said. “When the Super Bowl game is on the line, and it’s third-and-whatever and you need that first down, you stick your head in there. Other than that, anywhere else, you slide and give it up.”

If Vick doesn’t listen, he may not last 16 games in Chip Kelly’s offense.
