After Stefon Diggs had six catches for 87 yards in his Week Four debut, Vikings teammate Mike Wallace said that the rookie reminded him of former teammate Antonio Brown.
That’s strong company for any wideout and especially one that had just finished his first NFL game. Diggs had seven catches for 129 yards in his second outing, which led Wallace to repeat his earlier comparison and led to questions for coach Mike Zimmer about whether Charles Johnson would return to the starting lineup when he’s recovered from the rib injury that’s kept him out the last two weeks.
Zimmer said that a decision hadn’t been made yet, but that Johnson wasn’t guaranteed to return to the lineup because he was out with an injury.
“You don’t lose your starting job because of injury, but you do lose your starting job because of performance,” Zimmer said, via ESPN.com.
On a production front, it’s hard to make the case for anyone but Diggs. Johnson played well last season, but had six catches in three games before getting hurt and the fact that Diggs is just two games into his career makes his outings all the more intriguing for a 3-2 team with a couple of division games on the road coming their way.
