Monte Kiffin won’t remain with Cowboys

Monte Kiffin

Monte Kiffin

The Cowboys moved Monte Kiffin out of the defensive coordinator job last year and they’re moving him out of the organization entirely this year.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that Kiffin’s contract has expired and that he won’t be re-signed for a third year with the team.

Kiffin was the coordinator in 2013 when the Cowboys defense allowed the most yards in the league while losing three of their final four games to finish 8-8 and out of the playoffs. The team bumped Rod Marinelli up last year while Kiffin took on the title of assistant head coach and saw their defense perform much better despite dire preseason predictions for the unit.

Moore reports that the 75-year-old Kiffin would like to continue coaching. If he does, he’ll continue a career that dates back to 1966 and features stops at five college and seven pro teams.
