In a week that saw Jets safety Eric Smith lose a game and $50,000 and Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers cough up $10,000 (which is like a parking ticket, given his cap number) for using their helmets as something other than protection for their own noggins, three more fines were meted out to defensive players. Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Saints safety Kevin Caseofyarn (it’s a helluvalot easier to spell) was fined $25,000 for helmet-to-helmet contact. Schefter also reports that Raiders defensive end Kalimba Edwards was fined $7,500 for applying a horse-collar tackle to Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Finally, Schefter says that Chiefs defensive end Turk McBride will pay $5,000 for roughing the passer.
