Panthers tackle Jeff Otah surprised few fans of the franchise last week when he needed an MRI on his knee.

The surprise came Monday, when coach Ron Rivera said Otah’s knee is OK, according to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer.

The MRI came after Otah developed swelling in the knee. He has had two surgeries on that specific joint.

Otah also has missed 31 of the past 35 regular-season games. Given that it’s a contract year for Otah, he’ll need the knee to stay OK for the next seven months, if he wants to get paid next March.

He’ll also need the knee to be better than OK, because he’ll need to beat out Byron Bell, who started 12 games in place of Otah last year.
