Packers re-sign special teamer Martin

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Packers re-signed safety Derrick Martin Tuesday to a two-year contract extension, preventing the key special teamer from hitting restricted free agency next week.

The deal will give Martin some guaranteed money up front, but the terms are undisclosed.

It’s a contract that is unique to the current labor circumstances. Martin should have been an unrestricted agent this year, but this contract essentially eats up his next two possible years as a restricted free agent.

With free agency only ten days away, it wouldn’t surprise us to see more of these deals with lower-tier players.
