Panthers lose Bene Benwikere to broken leg, other injuries not serious

Randall Cobb, Bene’ Benwikere

The Panthers didn’t come out completely unscathed Sunday.

Head coach Ron Rivera told reporters after the game that starting cornerback Bene Benwikere suffered a broken leg in the 38-0 win over the Falcons, testing an already thin secondary for the 13-0 Panthers.

Rivera did have good news, however, as he said the foot injury to running back Jonathan Stewart and the knee injury suffered by tight end Greg Olsen weren’t serious, and they could have returned to the game if it had been closer.

Benwikere was starting for veteran corner Charles Tillman, who they’re hoping to get back before the end of the regular season after his knee injury.

The Panthers brought Cortland Finengan out of retirement two weeks ago, but other than Josh Norman, there’s not much else there. Teddy Williams is listed as a cornerback but he’s a special teamer.
