Panthers beat writer Darin Gantt was asked on Twitter earlier Tuesday how he would replace Dwayne Jarrett, assuming Jarrett was cut. (And he was.)
Gantt’s first suggestion: Claim former Jets wideout David Clowney off waivers.
Maybe Gantt can follow Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney on the journalist-turned-personnel guy route because that’s exactly the move Hurney made afternoon. Clowney is now a Panther.
“We had a chance to pick up off waivers a receiver we considered claiming when he became available four weeks ago,” Hurney said in a statement. “We wish Dwayne the best. I talked to Dwayne and told him the situation here is just not working out for either side.”
That’s an understatement. Jarrett caught 35 passes with one touchdown in four seasons in Carolina.
