The Panthers used to slide ticket price hikes in the weekend of the ACC basketball tournament, hoping the local passion for college hoops would keep people from noticing their wallets getting lighter.

But now that they’ve made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons and people love them again, they’re apparently thinking Valentine’s Day weekend is more appropriate.

Via Erik Spanberg of the Charlotte Business Journal, the Panthers are raising the cost of most seats between $2 and $5 a game for next season. A small section of 2,200 seats are going up $30 a game.

It’s the second straight year of raising prices, after holding prices flat from 2010 to 2013 (sort of like owner Jerry Richardson did with his payroll before the lockout).

Team president Danny Morrison told season-ticket holders in the letter sent today that the Panthers still rank in the lower half of the league in cost per game.
