Patrick Peterson: My health is back to normal

When Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson was asked recently about coach Bruce Arians’s revelation that some of last season’s struggles were attributable to blood sugar issues that Arians said made Peterson a “borderline” diabetic, Peterson said that he is, in fact, diabetic.

Peterson said during the interview with Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that doctors had “it all under wraps” and he went on Twitter Tuesday to offer a little more reassurance that his health problems are under control.

“I want to take a moment to address the media reports this morning regarding my health,” Peterson wrote. “While I did have abnormal sugar levels, I’ve been working with doctors on a strategic meal plan and workout routine that are reversing these symptoms. I’m grateful that this has been reversible for me and my health is back to normal. Thanks everyone for their concern and well wishes! Now back to my workouts and getting ready for the upcoming season!”

While there’s nothing great about learning you’re diabetic, the knowledge should allow Peterson to avoid a repeat of last year’s problem. Peterson isn’t the first NFL player to deal with diabetes during his playing career and getting on the right track is a good sign for a Peterson rebound in 2015.
