Patriots add running back Bishop Sankey to practice squad

The Patriots are generally willing to offer chances to highly drafted players who didn’t work out on their original teams.

When they can do it at practice squad wages, it makes it even easier to foster them.

Via Phil Perry of, the Patriots added former Titans second-round pick Bishop Sankey to their practice squad Sunday.

Sankey’s still just 23 years old, but was cut after two disappointing seasons in Tennessee (where the Titans loaded up on backs in free agency and the draft). Sankey averaged 3.8 yards per carry in Tennessee, and caught 32 passes in two years.

The Patriots have LeGarrette Blount and James White and D.J. Foster on the roster already, along with special teamer Brandon Bolden. They’re also waiting to see when or if they’ll get Dion Lewis back, as he’s opening the season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
