Randy Gregory has what could be another weighty issue

There’s a certain segment of the population that celebrates April 20, and promptly gets a case of the munchies.

And in an ironic pre-draft twist, it’s not Randy Gregory this time.

According to Dan Pompei of Bleacher Report, Gregory gave teams another red flag by showing up for a team workout under 230 pounds.

Gregory measured in at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds at the Scouting Combine (explaining he was sick before the weigh-in), so the five pounds lost might not be a big deal in and of itself.

“It really is not difficult,” he said then of adding some weight. “I can probably say it is a little harder to maintain it, but I have always been able to put on weight real quickly and lose it real quickly.”

Traveling as much as Gregory has been lately, it might be hard to find the appropriate nutrition and time to train.

But for all his potential, and all the concern about his failing a marijuana test at the Combine, the fact he’s a little skinny might be his biggest problem at the moment. Players can gain good weight once they get into an NFL weight program, and Gregory has the kind of frame to indicate he could carry more.

But that slight build might scare off teams which run a 4-3, and don’t want their defensive ends being limited to situational roles because they can’t hold up against the run.

Either that, or a team that hopes Gregory falls in their laps floated the number out there in hopes of scaring someone off and getting what they want.
