No NFL teams claimed wide receiver Chris Matthews after he was waived by the Seahawks last week, leaving him to find a new job as a free agent.

Matthews did that, but he’ll have to bide his time before he gets another chance to play on Sunday. Matthews signed with the Ravens practice squad on Monday, filling the spot that opened when the team promoted Chuck Jacobs to the active roster.

Matthews caught four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots in last year’s Super Bowl, but he had just four catches with the Seahawks this season before being cut loose. At 26, Matthews had plenty of chances to stick on a roster before his Super Bowl breakout so the chances that it happens for him now probably aren’t great. There would seem to be worse places for him to try to make it happen than Baltimore, however.

The Ravens are without Steve Smith and Breshad Perriman and the injuries to Joe Flacco and Justin Forsett give the team little reason to avoid seeing what young and unproven players can do over the final weeks of a losing season.
