The Ravens had several injured veterans talking to the media during minicamp this week, including linebacker Elvis Dumervil.
Dumervil recently had foot surgery and said he expects to be ready for training camp, although it’s still uncertain whether Terrell Suggs will be on the other side of the defense at that point. Suggs tore his Achilles last September and wasn’t among the players who spoke to reporters, choosing to issue a statement on Thursday instead.
“I know there are many questions about where I am with my injury,” Suggs said. “While I respect the media’s right to ask, I hope everyone can respect that I am 100 percent focused on rehabbing and preparing to be the best player I can be at the start of our season. I will address all of those questions during training camp.”
Coach John Harbaugh addressed Suggs’ status on Thursday and said the veteran linebacker looked good while going through rehab work this offseason. He doesn’t expect Suggs (or Dumervil) to play much in the preseason, but thinks there’s a good shot that he’ll be ready to practice next month.
“From a time frame standpoint, he has a real chance to be ready to go,” Harbaugh said, via the Baltimore Sun. “When we decide to practice him or how much or all that kind of thing, I think will depend on what’s in his and our best interest as far as having him at his best when we start playing games. We’ll just have to play that out once training camp starts.”
Suggs had 22 sacks over the 2013 and 2014 seasons and the Ravens would be thrilled if he could pick up where he left off. Whether that’s realistic is a question that won’t be answered until he’s actually back out there on the field.
