Redskins-Eagles one-liners

The Redskins took a lead into the final minutes but, once again, they couldn’t finish things off and lost 27-24 to the Eagles.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn was criticized for not playing for a touchdown against the Cowboys, but trying for one backfired at the end of the first half on Sunday when QB Jason Campbell was intercepted by Eagles CB Asante Samuel.

Second-year Redskins Fred Davis, Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas combined for 10 catches, 139 yards and a touchdown, a performance which nearly equaled their total production as rookies.

Redskins S LaRon Landry had a rough day thanks to a missed tackle on Eagles WR Jason Avant and blown coverage on WR DeSean Jackson’s touchdown catch.

Said Redskins LB Brian Orakpo, “We’ve played 90 percent of these games [well], but it’s the remaining 10 percent that we’re failing ourselves.”

Two rookies, WR Jeremy Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy, played big roles in the fourth quarter comeback for the Eagles.

Eagles K David Akers’s game-winning field goal was his 16th straight make and the latest sign that he’s recovered from his 2008 struggles.

Coach Andy Reid said that he tried an onside kick on the opening kickoff because the Redskins only had two players in the front line against five Eagles.

Martin Frank of the News Journal writes that the Eagles are straddling the line between being an awesome team and an awesomely bad one.

Eagles LB Tracy White made tackles on two key third down plays in the second half.
