As the Eagles continue to play with their backs against the wall, thanks to spending much of the first half of the season playing with their heads up their butts, starting quarterback Mike Vick is expected to miss another game.
Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that Vick’s broken ribs, which have again prevented him from practicing on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, will again prevent him from playing on Sunday, when the Eagles host the Patriots.
Vince Young, who overcame three interceptions to lead the Eagles on a long, game-winning drive against the Giants, will get the start. Which means that he’ll get another chance to persuade another team that he should be its full-time starting quarterback in 2012.
Young wisely insisted on a one-year deal with the Eagles, even though the Eagles wanted him to sign a two-year contract. As a result, Young will be a free agent in March. Despite Young’s struggles when dealing with adversity, there aren’t 32 better quarterbacks than the former Longhorn. Though former Titans coach Jeff Fisher became exasperated with Young, who’s to say that Young was the only one to blame? Perhaps another coach will know how to better manage Young, helping him through the inevitable rough spots that go with the territory.
Then again, Young could have a horrible game against the Patriots, relegating him to clipboard-holding status for the remainder of his career. Between the two, it’s safer to predict the former.
