The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been optimistic about their chances to keep running back Doug Martin. And now on the eve of free agency officially beginning on Wednesday, the Buccaneers may be closing in on a deal.
According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers are believed to be closing in on an agreement with Martin in the neighborhood of $6.85 million a year.
Martin was second in the league in rushing in 2015 behind only Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings. Martin rebounded from a pair of injury riddled seasons to rush for 1,402 yards and six touchdowns last season.
Martin has expressed his desire to remain with the Buccaneers as well. The Jaguars reaching a deal with Chris Ivory on Tuesday night could also help set the market for Martin’s contract.
