Very seldom do third-string quarterbacks end up with a chance to play in the NFL.
Then again, very seldom do they end up winning national championships in college, either.
Ohio State’s Cardale Jones is apparently, or was apparently, quite torn about the announcement he’ll make at 3 p.m.
According to Joe Schad of ESPN.com, a source close to Jones said the quarterback planned to ask coach Urban Meyer if he’d go into next season as the starter. Given the presence of Plan A and B Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett returning to Columbus, that’s far from a given.
By that logic, Meyer could have perhaps talked Jones out of leaving school early, if he wanted to. Then again, college football coaches are always forthright about future moves, so perhaps Jones might have been better served not asking.
That would leave him taking a chance to strike while the NFL iron’s hottest, rather than be recruited back by the same guy who recruited the two guys who were ahead of him on the depth chart.
