NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported late Friday that free agent quarterback Peyton Manning has informed the three finalists for his services -- Denver, Tennessee, and San Francisco -- that he plans to choose a new team “on Monday or Tuesday.”

Per Breer, folks involved with the Manning tour remain skeptical of whether Peyton will stick to that timeline. For good reason. Manning initially planned to sign with a team early this past week, but he never did. And in the meantime, two new teams (Titans, 49ers) jumped into the bidding.

As Florio has noted, all three teams left pursuing Manning are flush with salary cap space and don’t necessarily need an imminent decision in order to continue executing their free agency approach.

The 49ers would probably like a quick one, though, because their fallback option at quarterback, Alex Smith, is an unrestricted free agent.
