Report: No franchise tag for Hauschka

Hauschka

Last year, the Seahawks opted not to apply the franchise tag to kicker Steven Hauschka. It would have cost $2.977 million for one year.

Hauschka eventually signed a one-year, $715,000 contract.

This year, use of the tag on Hauschka would cost $3.556 million. Per Tom Pelissero of USA Today, the Seahawks are inclined to roll the dice again.

Pelissero reports that the Seahawks won’t be using the franchise tag on Hauschka. It means that, absent an agreement with the Seahawks before March 11, he’ll be free to sign with another team.

Hauscka converted on 94.3 percent of his field goals in 2013, making 33 of 35 kicks. He also registered touchbacks on 48 of 94 kickoffs.
