The Canadian scouting bureau of the Patriots is earning its loonies this month.

The team recently signed defensive lineman Armond Armstead away from the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts and it looks like Armstead will have someone to talk to if he gets wistful about using paper money that comes in more than one color. Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe reports that the Patriots have agreed to terms with defensive end/linebacker Jason Vega of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Per the report, the Blue Bombers haven’t released him from his contract yet so nothing’s official, but the deal is believed to be for three years with less guaranteed money than Armstead, who also signed for three years, received. Vega is familiar with the area after going to college at Northeastern and Bedard spoke to a scout who compared Vega to current Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich.

“You see the same kind of stuff that a Ninkovich does. He does show ability to get to the quarterback with a high motor and some pretty good technique,” the scout said. “He’s an OK athlete, like Ninkovich, but he makes plays.”

Looking to our neighbors to the north for pass rush help paid off for the Dolphins. The Patriots seem to be interested in finding out if it there are any more up there like Cameron Wake.
