Defensive end John Abraham appeared to be so frustrated about his experience as a free agent this offseason that people thought he was retiring, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case.
When his time as a free agent will come to an end is less clear, but a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN offers up a possible place for his hunt for a new team to wind up. Schefter reports that the Titans, who had Abraham in for a visit last week, are still discussing the possibility of signing him to a contract. Per Schefter, a deal could get done this week.
It would make for a nice birthday present for Abraham, who turned 35 on Monday, although there’s a lot of ground to cover between the possibility of a deal and an actual deal. Abraham’s asking price has likely kept him on the market longer than many anticipate and a decision to drop it could bring some of the other teams he’s been associated with back into the fray.
Should he wind up in Tennessee, it would be the latest step to an aggressive offseason approach put into action by General Manager Ruston Webster. The Titans were heavy players in free agency and they dealt away a 2014 draft pick to move up for wide receiver Justin Hunter in the draft. Adding Abraham to rush the passer with Derrick Morgan and Kamerion Wimbley already set as starters would fit right into that overall plan.
