We noted in our Saturday one-liners that an Arby’s in Richmond, Virginia had given a preferred parking spot to Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, on the off chance that he wanted to stop by.
Unfortunately, it turns out that if Griffin does go to Arby’s, he’ll have to fight the rest of the crowds for a parking spot.
The franchise owner, Dean Kovanes, told Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post that he took the sign when a team representative contacted him and asked him to remove it. Kovanes said the team representative “couldn’t have been more polite,” but presumably the Redskins didn’t want any suggestion that Arby’s was an official sponsor of either the team or Griffin.
Still, I’m sure Griffin would get a warm welcome if he showed up. Perhaps he should take his fiancee there on the first day of training camp, in an homage to the celebratory meal David Puddy and Elaine Benes shared on Puddy’s first day on the job as a car salesman.
