Rookie Corey Coleman lights up Browns intrasquad scrimmage

NFL Draft

First-round rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman has been the best player in Browns camp, and Coleman came up big again Friday night in a full-speed intrasquad scrimmage.

As he’s done all week, quarterback Robert Griffin III looked for Coleman early and often. According to those on hand, Coleman caught three long touchdown passes in the scrimmage, two that covered more than 40 yards.

New Browns coach Hue Jackson has said that Coleman “always finds a way to make a play” and that though he has a long way to go, he’s off to a strong start.

He’s a fantastic player and I think we all recognize that,” Jackson said.

Coleman came into camp as the Browns’ No. 1 wide receiver by default, but over a week’s worth of practices he has looked the part. He’ll stay busy as veteran wide receiver Andrew Hawkins has missed a couple days with a sore hamstring and the recently reinstated Josh Gordon has a quad injury.

The Browns need dynamic playmakers, and it’s been since 2010 since they’ve drafted a real difference maker in the first round, so Coleman’s strong start has both the organization and fans excited.

The Browns open the preseason Aug. 12 at Green Bay.
