Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t speculate about his future as starter

Ryan Fitzpatrick wants to get better, and meet his own expectations as the Texans starting quarterback.

But he’s not ready to speculate on how long he’ll have that title.

With coach Bill O’Brian saying he’d evaluate his quarterbacks during the bye week, Fitzpatrick shrugged off speculation that Ryan Mallett could be closer to taking over.

I don’t live in a hypothetical world,” Fitzpatrick said, via Dale Robertson of the Houston Chronicle.

Fitzpatrick is smart enough to see the writing on the wall, that Mallett will get a chance sooner or later. While he hasn’t been awful, he’s certainly below average, and with a decent supporting cast and a young project who needs reps behind him, the move seems inevitable, whether he wants to talk about it or not.
