Sarah Thomas will get some attention this season as the NFL’s only female official. But she hopes and expects to fit in quickly.
“I approach it just as an official . . . maybe they’ll see me just as an official. That’s how I want them to see me,” Thomas said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.
Thomas said she doesn’t think players and coaches particularly care about her status as a trailblazer.
“They just want the job to be done and be done consistently, done right,” Thomas said.
That’s likely how fans will see her too. Officials are generally only noticed when they get a call wrong, and as long as Thomas does her job well, she’ll largely fly under the radar this season.
