Sometimes inertia is a powerful force when it comes to personnel.
According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, the Seahawks signed punter Jon Ryan to a four-year, $10 million deal.
Ryan hasn’t been great lately, but he’s been with the Seahawks since 2008, and sometimes that matters more.
He was 16th in the league in gross average last year and 29th in net, so perhaps they could help him out by improving their coverage units.
But it’s also a reflection of the reality that punters can have value by simply being familiar, or perhaps they’re just rewarding him for giving up his nose for the team.
