Somber Ryan gives credit to Colts

Rex Ryan is done boasting for the year.

As somber and unemotional as we’ve seen him all season, Ryan calmly gave credit to the Colts for their 30-17 victory in the AFC Championship.

“That’s a tough team. There’s a lot of matchup issues that any team has going against them. . . . If you can’t disrupt Peyton Manning’s rhythm, he’ll kill you. We didn’t disrupt him enough.”

Ryan spoke about using extra defensive backs Sunday often because Bart Scott’s ankle wasn’t right, saying Scott was a one-legged man.

The Colts racked up 461 yards and the Jets couldn’t stop Indianapolis in the final 32 minutes no matter what they tried.

“We tried everything, Ryan said. We tried man, two-man, tried zone, you name it. You gotta give him credit. He’s a heck of a quarterback.

Ryan did get a little worked up when he talked about a “cheap shot” the Colts took at Mark Sanchez. Ryan believed Sanchez took an unnecessary helmet to the back from the Colts. “If we would have done that, they would have run me out of the stadium.”

Still, Ryan sounded like a man that knew he was beaten by a better team. He bemoaned the score Indianapolis made right before halftime, but said a 17-6 lead probably wouldn’t have been enough.

“Today wasn’t our day,” Ryan said. “They are the cream of the crop.”
