On Monday, word out of Washington was that defensive lineman Stephen Paea was close to a deal with the Redskins.

That deal is done on Tuesday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Paea has signed a four-year deal at over $5 million a year.

Paea started all 16 games for the Bears last season and had a career-high six sacks to set himself up well for free agency. Paea had six sacks in his first three seasons with Chicago, where he was a defensive tackle.

In the Redskins’ 3-4 front, he may see more time at defensive end although it’s a good bet that they’ll try to capitalize on his ability to push the pocket from the interior of the line. Washington has also signed Ricky Jean Francois this offseason and Jason Hatcher will be back on the line for a second year in D.C.
