As a placekicker on a one-year deal, the Seahawks’ Steven Hauschka couldn’t have helped himself much more in 2013.
The 28-year-old Hauschka connected on 39-of-41 combined field goals in regular-season and postseason play. He hit all 53 of his extra point attempts, and he forced touchbacks on half of his kickoffs (57-of-114).
Hauschka re-signed with Seattle in April after hitting 24-of-27 field goals in 2012. Should he remain unsigned at the start of the new league year in March, it will be interesting to see if he draws a look from other clubs.
After the Seahawks’ win in Super Bowl XLVIII, someone asked Seattle’s kicker if he would do anything special having won a title.
“I’m already going to the World Cup,” said Hauschka, a former collegiate soccer player, according to an interview transcript from the league. “I’m probably going to get myself a watch or something.”
What Hauschka probably really wants is a multi-year contract. And he’s done what he can to make a case for one.
