Stevie Johnson mocks Burress after a touchdown
It is almost three years to the day that Plaxico Burress put a halt to his NFL career by shooting himself in the thigh and Stevie Johnson decided to commemorate the event.
Johnson caught a touchdown late in the second quarter and then proceeded to act out shooting himself in the thigh in the end zone. You can check out a video of the celebration here. He then proceeded to mock Jets receiver Santonio Holmes’ habit of acting like an airplane after a score before throwing himself to the ground as if the plane crashed. That led to a costly flag that left the game tied at 14.
Dave Rayner had to kick off from the 20 after Johnson’s penalty and Rayner compounded the problem by mis-hitting the kick right into the front line of Jets blockers. The Jets recovered and took advantage of the short field to score a touchdown. The touchdown was scored by Burress, ironically enough, but he did not have any special answer to Johnson’s interpretation of what happened on November 29th, 2008.
Johnson’s celebration and penalty overshadowed a good first half for the Bills receiver. Ryan Fitzpatrick targeted him early and often and having Darrelle Revis cover him didn’t do much to slow him down. Johnson had five catches for 44 yards and Fitzpatrick avoided the turnovers that have been a huge problem in recent weeks.
Mark Sanchez hasn’t been so lucky. Sanchez threw a pick for the fifth straight week, setting up Johnson’s score, and has completed just 8-of-20 passes. Two of them have gone for touchdowns, though, which means the Jets don’t have to mount a comeback in the final 30 minutes.
