Talib’s mother tells police her son could have fired gun

Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib was formally indicted on Friday, which means that he should be headed to a trial on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon unless a plea agreement is reached.

I’m not the lawyer around here, but one problem for Talib will be the statements made to the police from Talib’s mother Okolo Talib in the days after the incident.

Police say that Aqib Talib fired shots at Shannon Billings after Okolo Talib did the same. Aqib Talib denied he ever shot the gun; he also is accused of pistol whipping Billings.

His mother told police “she did hear a shot and eventually admitted it could’ve been Aqib who shot,” according to an affidavit obtained by Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times.

Aqib Talib also reportedly gave many “conflicting statements” to police about the events in question.
