If there was any doubt that Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum realizes he ducked a pink slip in January and remains in line for one after the 2009 season ends, Tannenbaum removed it via his decision to trade up on Saturday to get a new quarterback -- and to trade up on Sunday to get a guy who can run the ball if Thomas Jones decides that he’s going to continue to be a pain in the butt. With roughly eleven hours to make a move for the player that was at the top of their board after the first two rounds, the Jets sent their third-round pick (No. 76 overall), their fourth-round pick (No. 115 overall), and their seventh-round pick (No. 228 overall) to the Lions for the ability to jump up eleven spots and land Iowa tailback Shonn Greene with the first pick in round three. Under the draft trade chart, the deal is about even, with the Lions giving up 265 points and getting roughly 276. On Saturday, they gave up their first-round pick (No. 17 overall), their second-round pick, and three players to jump up 12 spots to get quarterback Mark Sanchez at No. 5. And there almost was more. According to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News, the Jets tried to trade back into round one to get receiver Percy Harvin. They called the Browns, with whom they’d done the Sanchez deal, in the hopes of getting the No. 21 selection, one spot before the Vikings took Harvin at No. 22. We heard yesterday that the Jets were candidates to take Harvin at No. 17, if they didn’t trade up for Sanchez -- and that if not the Jets at No. 17, Harvin could land in Minnesota.
