Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson seems resigned to the fact that no matter how hard he works this offseason, he won’t find out if he has a chance at being a starter until he finds out if Brett Favre feels like coming back.
But Jackson acknowledges that he wasn’t happy when Favre showed up to Vikings training camp in August of 2009 and took the starting quarterback job that Jackson thought was his.
“I was bitter. I was mad,” Jackson told Dan Graziano of FanHouse. “But then once he got here, and I got a chance to be around him and see what kind of person he was, I felt a lot better. He helped me a lot. I learned so much just by watching him. I wouldn’t go back and change things.”
So does that mean Jackson looks forward to another year of learning from Favre? Not necessarily.
“I feel like I could learn from being a backup, but at the same time, I’m not getting younger,” Jackson said. “I still want to be a great quarterback in this league and I want to make that happen.”
Whether Jackson can make that happen in Minnesota he won’t know until Favre announces his intentions, which is likely still a few months away.
