It took only seven minutes for the NFL to sell 20,000 tickets for a total of 70,000 already sold for the New England Patriots’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season at London’s Wembley Stadium, according to the NFL. This Oct. 25 game marks the third NFL regular-season game in London, and the previous two were sellouts. “We have been delighted with the way fans have got behind the game, especially considering the challenging economic climate,” NFL UK managing director Alistair Kirkwood said in a statement. “The response is indicative of the must-see nature of our game and the place it has cemented in the UK sports calendar.” An unspecified amount of additional tickets have been made available. Plus, New England and Tampa Bay faithful will be able to purchase tickets in their respective cities later on. Just my humble opinion, but I think the NFL should only play the occasional preseason game overseas, if ever. I just think it’s fundamentally unfair to hard-working season-ticket holders who might not be able to afford or aren’t inclined to leave the continent to watch their favorite football team in person.
