Today’s the day for Sanchez knee surgery

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is having surgery today on his left knee, the New York Daily News is reporting.

Sanchez decided a few weeks ago to have surgery on the knee, which he first injured in 2008 at USC.

Per the Daily News, the procedure is described as “minimally invasive” and “partially arthroscopic,” and will repair a patella-stabilizing ligament.

Sanchez and the Jets have said he’ll be ready to go before the start of training camp in July, although it’s not clear whether he’ll be able to fully participate in organized team activities.

The left knee has long caused problems for Sanchez, and he suffered a partial dislocation of it on November 29 against the Carolina Panthers. That injury didn’t cause him to miss any games, but in the Jets’ next game, December 3 against the Buffalo Bills, he suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. That injury caused him to miss his only game of the season, December 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the right knee will not require surgery.
