Back in 1985, the 49ers were the defending Super Bowl champs. And they rolled into the Metrodome in September to face a Vikings team that had gone 3-13 years below. And the Vikings won.

Nearly 30 years later, it could be happening again -- with the only difference being that the 49ers made it only to the NFC title game last year.

Possibly buoyed by the presence of former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary on the defensive coaching staff, the Vikings are suffocating San Fran at the half, 17-3.

For the Vikings, Christian Ponder has completed 15 of 23 for 143 yards and a touchdown. He also has run for a score.

Ponder also is the leading rusher, with 34 yards on three attempts. Adrian Peterson has 29 yards on 14 carries.

The Niners have had the ball three times, with one made field goal and one blocked field goal. After the miss, the Vikings got the ball back with 52 seconds -- parlaying it into a 52-yard field goal from rookie kicker Blair Walsh. It’s his third 50-plus make in three weeks.
