Vincent Jackson could be Robert Griffin III’s top receiver
Now that Robert Griffin III has been penciled in as Washington’s quarterback for the next decade, the Redskins would like to find him a No. 1 receiver.
We noted last month that the Redskins are planning to be major players in the wide receiver market in free agency, and that Vincent Jackson appears to be the Redskins’ top target. Houston sports radio host Lance Zierlein reports that the belief around the league now, after the Redskins traded up to draft Griffin, is that Redskins are ready to go very hard after Jackson.
Jackson could make a lot of sense as Griffin’s top target. He’s an experienced No. 1 receiver, but at age 29 he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down yet. Last year he started all 16 games and had 60 catches for 1,106 yards and nine touchdowns.
But the Redskins will have competition for Jackson’s services. We’ve previously identified the Bears, Bills and Buccaneers as teams that are expected to make him an offer when free agency starts on Tuesday.
Pierre Garcon, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston, Plaxico Burress and Mario Manningham have also been mentioned as potential free agent receivers for the Redskins.
