Count Von Miller as one teammate who thinks Peyton Manning is still the man to lead the Broncos.
Miller told Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he thinks Manning’s return makes the Broncos contenders again.
“We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton,” Miller said. “I think that’s the only thing that matters. To win a Super Bowl we need Peyton Manning and I think that he’s going to be able to play at a high level. It’s Peyton Manning. Whatever it is he needs to do, he’s going to do it. That’s one position that I’m just not worried about.”
Manning was fourth in the NFL in passer rating, fourth in passing yards and second in touchdowns last season. A team can certainly win a Super Bowl with a quarterback like that.
The question is whether Manning can play at that level throughout the season -- and the postseason -- at the age of 39. Last year Manning was his typically excellent self for much of the year but began to wear down as the season went on, and by the time the Broncos lost in the playoffs, he didn’t have much left. Miller is confident that Manning can play well into January and February. The rest of us will have to wait and see.
