Adam Hayward, a Washington linebacker and special teams player who has played well at times but been plagued by injuries, has been released.

The team announced the move this morning.

The 32-year-old Hayward has spent the last two years in Washington. In 2014 he was chosen as the team’s special teams captain, but he suffered a season-ending broken leg after 11 games. In 2015 he suffered a torn ACL in the preseason and missed the entire regular season.

Now Hayward becomes an unrestricted free agent and will look for a new team. Although he could provide special teams help and depth at linebacker to some team, his age and injury history mean his career could be at an end.

Washington’s roster is currently at 89 players, so another signing may be in the works today.
