I have had the opportunity to make plays because of how well our secondary has performed.” Jets DT Kris Jenkins looks like he’s wearing down. The Patriots, who had eight Pro Bowlers last year, had just two this year. The Cowboys lead the NFL with 53 sacks, including 25 in the last four games. NBC’s Tiki Barber wants to interview his old Giants coach, Tom Coughlin: “I’m trying to do an interview with him this week. Put the emphasis on ‘trying to.’ I know there’s no shot, but we’ll see.” Said Eagles S Brian Dawkins of making the Pro Bowl, “This is a huge accomplishment with all I’ve gone through the last couple of years.” Redskins S LaRon Landry said of the way the team is struggling late in games, “You just look around and think, ‘Man, how does this keep happening?’” Ravens FB Le’Ron McClain says making the Pro Bowl shows he has the respect of his opponents. The Bengals didn’t have any Pro Bowlers, but WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh is an alternate. The Browns have run 262 consecutive plays without scoring an offensive touchdown. Steelers WR Hines Ward describes himself as the most-hated guy in Baltimore. Bears LB Brian Urlacher’s star has fallen; not making the Pro Bowl is the latest example. Some Lions fans are rooting for an 0-16 season. Says Packers CB Charles Woodson, “I would say we definitely have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball, but for whatever reason, we dropped the ball as a defense.” Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Texans DE Mario Williams is a Pro Bowler; the guys fans wanted the Texans to draft instead of Williams, Reggie Bush and Vince Young, are not. Said Colts DE Dwight Freeney of his Pro Bowl berth, “It’s great, man. I don’t care how many times you’ve been; whenever you can get voted in by your peers, the fans and the coaches, it’s a great honor.” The Jaguars were shut out of the Pro Bowl and didn’t even have a first or second alternate. Said Titans DT Albert Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck, “I am just excited for Albert that he made the Pro Bowl and he is certainly deserving of it. ... I think the contract stuff will take care of itself at the end of season.’' The Falcons put CB David Irons and WR Laurent Robinson on injured reserve. The Panthers worked out a pair of linemen Tuesday. Said Saints QB Drew Brees of being the team’s only Pro Bowler, “I look at the guys on our team and feel bad for them, because certainly there are guys who are deserving. It makes you feel like if we were just 9-5 or 10-4, more guys would be recognized.” Bucs LB Derrick Brooks says he’s thankful to be returning to the Pro Bowl. In the last two weeks the Broncos have signed, released and re-signed S Herana-Daze Jones. Says Chiefs coach Herm Edwards of the departure of GM Carl Peterson, “We knew this day was coming. This was going to transpire.” Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha said of making the Pro Bowl, “It’s a dream come true.” Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson has been chosen to the last five Pro Bowls but is just a third alternate this year. The Cardinals had their most Pro Bowlers since 1977. The Rams say they’re letting the football people make the football decisions. LB Patrick Willis is the first player on the 49ers to make the Pro Bowl in his first two seasons since Ronnie Lott. Said Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren of having WR Deion Branch healthy, “You can see it makes a difference. Now we can play and we can complete balls and he can beat coverage.”
