Wildcat invades special teams?

An interesting wrinkle occurred early in the second quarter of Sunday’s game between the Vikings and the Lions.

From punt formation, Minnesota used a new “up” back.

Tarvaris Jackson.

Though the ball was snapped as it normally would be and the punt was kicked as it normally would be, Jackson’s presence gives every team the Vikings will be facing something to think about when preparing to play Minnesota.

The other reality is that the use of Jackson on the punt team prevents Sage Rosenfels from being anything other than the No. 3 quarterback, unless Rosenfels is interested in playing special teams, too.

Then again, Rosenfels might be No. 2 by default, if Jackson gets blown up on one of those punting plays.
