With Kessler cleared and RG3 close, Hue Jackson not naming QB yet
With Robert Griffin III likely to be cleared for the first time since the season opener and Cody Kessler now out of the concussion protocol after his second concussion of the season, Browns coach Hue Jackson told reporters Monday he isn’t ready to name a starting quarterback for his team’s next game.
“Let me sort through and see who is totally healthy,” Jackson said, per the team’s official transcript. “Then we will make a decision and go from there.”
The Browns are off this week. Their next game is Dec. 11 vs. the Bengals.
Jackson said Griffin has not been cleared for contact but he expects that to happen soon. The Browns will practice on Tuesday then be dismissed for their bye week, and Jackson said he’ll take into account the health of all involved before making a decision next week.
Six different players have taken snaps at quarterback this season. Griffin, who was injured in the season opener, returned to practice on a limited basis next week and will be activated from IR when he’s fully cleared. With Griffin and Kessler back at practice, the Browns waived rookie quarterback Joe Callahan on Monday.
