Canes’ Skinner to miss ninth straight, 10th likely

Jeff Skinner

There was some hope Jeff Skinner would be back in the Carolina lineup for tonight’s game against Anaheim.

Those hopes were dashed on Friday afternoon, though -- along with hopes he’d be able to play on Saturday.

Carolina head coach Kirk Muller said Skinner would miss the Ducks game, his ninth in a row, and would likely be out for tomorrow’s game against St. Louis as well, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

Skinner, 21, hasn’t played since Oct. 24 due to an unspecified upper-body ailment. Speculation is it’s a hand injury, and Skinner recently went to see specialists in New York for a second opinion on the original diagnosis.

The former Calder winner had nine points through his first 10 games this year, and his absence has coincided with Carolina struggling both offensively, and in the win column.

The ‘Canes are 3-4-1 since Skinner was lost to injury and have only mustered 11 goals, one of which came in overtime (against Philly on Nov. 5).
